I own lots of computers. I normally state a figure about 10. here are some details about a few of them.
The network of boxes that lives in my college room is called van.mildert, after the college. The four up and running are:
Lupin was my first real computer, and still is my main work box. It runs Debian stable, and one of the reasons I'm looking forward to etch is so I can upgrade it. Its had many upgrades over the years, including new processor fan, power supply, case, cd drive (twice), network cards, keyboard (twice), mouse, hard disks (many times) and monitor. Only the processor, memory, motherboard and Video card are still the same, and I want more memory and a better video card.
| Processor | AMD Athlon 2000XP (clocked at 1.2GHz) |
|---|---|
| Memory | 256MB |
| Video Card | NVidia TNT 2 |
| Hard Discs | 2X300GB SATA (Raid 1) used for /home and 40GB IDE for everything else. |
Lupin was named for the Harry Potter character, and since then a few of my boxes have been named for Harry Potter characters and/or werewolves. The reason for the name is lost in the mists of time, but a friend once suggested that its was because the box when wrong at the full moon. needless to say, looking at a page in a Harry Potter is odd now, since "lupin" means something different to me.
Named after a Policewoman in the Discworld book, Angua runs OpenBSD 3.9 and serves as a firewall, DHCP server and DNS server. Its been scary reiable, and pf is actually quite nice.
When the install was done, sketch was supposed to be a box for testing bits of etch, hence the name. Its now become part of my uni project, and can't be turned off.
Madeye is my windows box and only laptop. It runs Windows XP and I even use it from time to time.
At some point a couple of years ago, Physics dismantled a alpha cluster and everyone and their dog took home an reasonably speced alpha. I took away a DS10 and at some later date got a AU553. The DS10 lives in Dan's House where it serves as a external host from JaNET. Jon has an account, and uses it to check 64bit-ness of Debian packages.
I have an Ultra 1 which isn't doing anything, and a SS5 and SS IPC which I don't even know if they work. They are waiting a free weekend to have a good poke
Sitting in my parents house there is :
I have accounts all over the place. Here is but a few...
Toast: Had a toast account for three years now. I use it less than I used to, but its still nice to have around.
I host lots of stuff of dan's box hades. Its lovely.
bits of my DNS live on fof.durge.org.
